Job Description:

The part time temporary library assistant is scheduled for 20 hours per week during the academic year beginning in August and ending in May.  This position assists with reference queries and basic computer operations, provides circulation desk services, assists librarians and other staff with various clerical duties, provides some supervision of library student workers.  Includes some evening work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Library Research Assistance
    • Provide assistance in research and library usage, including some nights.
    • Provide basic computer, network, and D2L assistance to library users.
    • Assist with InterLibrary loan request processing.
    • Assist with updating LibGuides and bibliographies.
  • Circulation Desk
    • Assist with providing service at the Circulation Desk.
    • Assist student workers with Circulation Desk tasks, as supervisor when working Reference at night.
    • Assist with updating patron database.
  • Assist librarians with various clerical duties, such as checking links for database records and compiling statistics.
  • Assist with collection development and acquisition of library materials.
  • Assist with Library assessment process.
  • Serve as “Library Supervisor on Duty” during assigned night Reference shifts.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Must be detail oriented and have excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to create a welcoming environment encouraging students to come with questions of any sort;
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize work assignments and work with a minimum of supervision;
  • Openness to change, new tasks, and new software programs;
  • Attitude of customer service, compassion, care and confidentiality;
  • Expertise with a variety of computer operations;
  • A vibrant commitment to Christ and the Christian ideals of Greenville College as well as an understanding and appreciation of Christian Higher Education

Education or Certification:

  • At least two years of college education.
