Job Description:

This position has responsibilities in both maintenance and grounds.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Performs general corrective and preventive maintenance work on various structures, buildings, equipment, and fixtures located on Greenville College property.  Inspects, installs, adjusts, modifies and repairs building and infrastructure systems; assesses condition of fixtures and parts; replaces parts; makes purchases of new parts and supplies; works with contractors to complete a variety of projects, as assigned; services, repairs and maintains vehicles and equipment; participates in cleaning and painting; performs routine inspections on a regular basis to verify that equipment and systems are in proper working order; drives a motor vehicle to various work sites; picks up and delivers materials and equipment; cleans and maintains the maintenance shop and related work areas.  Position will be required to assist other campus departments on an as needed basis.
  • Perform various tasks necessary to maintain the function and appearance of campus grounds and associated properties.  This includes, but is not limited to, the care, maintenance and cleanup of all campus lawns and landscape by mowing, weed trimming, edging, blowing, raking, debris and trash removal, sweeping and mulching.
  • Works individually or as a team member under general supervision of the Associate Director of Facilities. A moderate to high degree of independent judgment is required to follow and modify standard, prescribed trade techniques to complete given assignments, and to resolve minor and some major problems that arise. Generally provides routine and emergency repairs during regularly scheduled hours however the individual may be called in for after hour emergencies or work after regular hours as needed. A vital member of a team that relies upon individual initiative and cooperation between others.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to safely and successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Manual dexterity to walk, climb, stand, bend, twist, kneel, stoop, crouch, and crawl to work on various parts of building structures and systems necessary to perform job duties.
  •  Lift objects up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to climb ladders and scaffolds
  • Ability to properly handle powered and non-powered tools, equipment and machinery
  • Vision to read work requests, blueprints and diagrams, manuals and regulations.
  • Speech and hearing for communicating instructions, information, and work requests.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

  • Work is performed indoors and outdoors
  • Frequent travel is required throughout the college complex and local community
  • Usually work a standard 37.5 -hour week. May be required to work overtime during evenings, weekends, and holidays.  May be on-call for emergencies.
  • Must wear protective attire, such as work gloves, hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, fall protection harnesses, leather aprons, back support, and sturdy boots to protect from exposure to hazardous conditions, situations, and equipment.

  • Must be able to fluently communicate (read, write, and speak) in the English language.
  • Agree with and enthusiastically support the lifestyle, theology, and mission of Greenville College.
  • Demonstration of interpersonal skills in order to work with and relate to administrative, faculty, and staff colleagues, as well as residential college students.
  • A team player willing to assist others and contribute to the goals of the department on a continual basis.
  • Ability to maintain safe working conditions and demonstrate safe working practices
  • Ability to follow instruction and complete tasks independently

 

Education or Certification:

  • High school diploma required.
