Agribusiness Major

GC’s Agribusiness Program Meets Unique Industry Needs

Greenville’s Briner School of Business has developed a new agribusiness management degree to meet the growing demand for agribusiness managers. The USDA reports that in the next few years, U.S. agricultural graduates from all backgrounds will meet only 61 percent of the jobs needed annually across all agriculture industries.  Of the estimated 58,000 jobs needed through 2020, 46 percent, or half of the agricultural jobs required, will be in management and business positions.  The positions not filled with qualified agricultural graduates will be filled in with the next best candidates to show up.

In addition to meeting demand for agribusiness managers, the GC agribusiness major will also equip graduates for the entrepreneurial nature of the job. With a solid foundation of management knowledge, graduates from this program will have the skills and experience to grow business for their future employers.  In the vision of Bob Briner, the business school’s namesake, GC agribusiness management graduates will be “lambs that roar.”

The agribusiness management program is a good fit for Greenville College because GC is “locally global.”  Many of the largest internationally competitive agribusiness firms are located within a 5-hour radius of Greenville College.

Students also benefit from GC’s emphasis on character development and experiential learning.  Conversations between leading agribusiness executives and Briner School of Business Dean Suzanne Davis affirm the value of GC’s agribusiness objectives: to deliver graduates who possess business acumen, speak the language of agriculture, and exhibit good character.
