Bastian School of Theology, Philosophy, and Ministry - Donald and Kathleen Bastian

Donald N. and Kathleen G. Bastian

Don and Kathleen BastianThe lives and ministry of Donald and Kathleen Bastian embody Greenville College’s ideals of theological and ministerial education. We want our students to emulate the Bastians’ careful thinking and their profound desire to love and obey Christ.

Bishop Donald Bastian served as a pastor in the Free Methodist denomination for many years, pastoring the Greenville Free Methodist church from 1961 to 1974. He was a bishop within the Free Methodist Church in North America and Canada for a total of 19 years. His mastery of preaching is matched only by his prolific writing. His books include The Pastor’s First Love: And Other Essays on a High and Holy Calling. He authored articles, pamphlets and brochures for purposes of Christian education and maintains the blog Just Call Me Pastor.

Kathleen Bastian served beside her husband throughout his ministry, excelling in hospitality for Greenville College and the Greenville Free Methodist Church during their years with that congregation. She dedicated herself to children’s ministries, missionary circles, and raising her family.

For the Bastians, love for Christ is paramount. “The cornerstone of all effective pastoral activity is the pastor’s first love, a love for the Master, Jesus Christ,” says Bishop Bastian. “Loving Him—or loving Him back, really, because He loved us first—is what carries pastors through to the end of the race.”
