Bachelor of Music Education

David Pence teaches clarinet and saxophone applied lessons. Mr. Pence received his B. of Music Education degree from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. He served in the United States Army in Army bands as a saxophonist and drum major from 1966 to 1990, with duty stations at Fort Sheridan, Chicago, Okinawa, Fort Gordon, GA, Wurzburg, Germany, Fort Belvoir, VA, Fort Monroe, VA and Heidelberg, Germany. Following his Army career, Mr. Pence taught K-12 music in Witt, IL from 1993-1994, after which he and his wife, Patricia, having become believers in Jesus Christ in February, 1993, were called to full-time music ministry, eventually traveling to 27 states, sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ through their music. Also, around 1994, they became involved with Greenville College as community volunteers with the college concert band as well as playing in the Greenville Muny Band in the summers. David originally played clarinet with the college and Muny bands, eventually switching to alto saxophone, his major instrument. David and Patricia live in Hillsboro, where they have a hobby farm with a flock of 25 domestic ducks. They also have six border collies that are part of their music ministry as therapy dogs. In 2009, the Pences were called by the Lord to begin providing Sunday morning worship services at the two nursing homes in Hillsboro and have continued to do so to the present time. Their border collies are a vital part of that ministry, bringing much joy to the residents who attend their services. They continue to serve the Lord through their music ministry that features seven multi-media programs, each one with a unique theme reflected in the songs integrated with PowerPoint slides. The Pences play a variety of instruments in their ministry: David plays soprano, alto and tenor saxophones, clarinet and Irish penny whistles; Patricia plays French horn, trumpet, pocket trumpet and flugelhorn.
