ESL, M.A.E.

Teacher demands and expectations today are far greater than they have ever been, but are classroom teachers adequately prepared to teach and interact with this culturally and linguistically diverse population? In classrooms where that is communicated, practiced, and perceived; you have the immediate potential to greatly affect and impact students. It is imperative that teachers learn how to effectively communicate cross-culturally in such diverse contexts.


Is ESL For You?

  • English language learners are the fastest growing group of students in the United States today.
  • One out of every nine students in America is learning English as a second language. That's about 5.4 million children - almost the population of Arizona, or Maryland, or Tennessee.
  • Current projections indicate that by the year 2030, 40% of all school-aged children in the United States will be speakers of a first language other than English.
  • According to College Board, ESL teachers are not just in demand around the country, but also around the world.
  • The U.S. Department of Education lists English as a Second Language teachers as one of the high-need areas in many states across the nation.

Costs

Tuition for the coursework and research component is $396 per credit hour. The total cost for tuition and fees is approximately $13,068. Tuition credit may be available for supervision of student teachers and field experience students.

Book rental is included in tuition which means textbooks for all of your classes will be available with no extra out-of-pocket costs.

Admission Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited undergraduate institution
  • A completed Greenville College graduate program application and $30 application fee
  • Official transcripts from all previously attended educational institutions
  • Two letters of reference
  • Copies of all currently held teacher certificates
    (*not required for individuals pursuing the non-endorsement track.)
  • A written statement of educational philosophy
