We offer "Prior Learning Assessment" or PLA. PLA is a way to evaluate and award you college credit for learning you've gained through personal and professional experiences. Put it another way, you can receive college credit for learning you've acquired while living your life! Here are some of the ways previous students have received credit:
1) Professional Licenses - everything from First Aid/CPR certification to a cosmetology license, etc.
2) Professional training programs you've completed through an employer
3) Military training
4) Take a "CLEP" test and test out of a college class
5) Write an essay about your experiences. For example, if you've started a business you can write an essay about "Entrepreneurship", or based on your personal experiences you can write about "Marriage and Family" or "Divorce Recovery" "Parenting" etc.
You can earn up to 22 credits through the PLA process. It costs $35 per credit to have that credit awarded to you. Many people find PLA a cheaper and faster way to earn college credit rather than taking additional classes. At the beginning of every group, students have the option of attending a PLA workshop to learn the details.
