Joel Lira has served on the Greenville College coaching staff since 2013. He returns after completing his first season as the quarterbacks coach and offensive graduate assistant. Last year, Coach Lira helped the Panthers to a school best 9-1 regular season record and an NCCAA Victory Bowl appearance. Lira coached QB Brendan Chambers and helped the Panthers offense soar to new heights. Under Lira's tutelage, Chambers was selected first team all-UMAC and UMAC offensive player of the year. Chambers was also a preseason All-American. The Panther offense was ranked third nationally in rushing offense with 326 rush yards per game and finished the season ranked 18th nationally in total offense with 473 yards per game.
Coach Lira is a Greenville graduate. He started at quarterback for two seasons after transferring from New Mexico Military Institute. He helped the Panthers to a 14-6 overall record in his two years. After the 2009 season, the Panthers qualified for postseason play in the NCCAA Victory Bowl. Coach Lira served as a team captain during all four years as a college football player. He was freshman of the year in 2007 at NMMI and was elected best cadet in his troop in 2008.
Coach Lira is completing his masters of arts in coaching education while at Greenville. He graduated in 2012 with a degree in History and Political Science. Coach Lira also serves as the assistant recruiting coordinator and runs the strength program for the football team. He is a member of the AFCA and is originally from Lubbock, Texas.
