Season Updates
Prelude to Season Opener - 9/10/04
The 2004 Greenville College Football season will mark the most ambitious football
schedule in the history of Greenville College Football (which fielded its
first team in 1987).
Besides our regular conference schedule of 7 games (the Illini-Badger Conference
spreads from Southern Illinois to Southern Wisconsin), we will also be facing
3 national caliber play-off teams: Trinity International University (NAIA
Top 25), Wheaton College (perennial Division III power) and Washington University
– St. Louis (a multiple-time league champion).
Our reason for having this most challenging schedule was because we desire
to become a play-off caliber team as soon as able, and the way to “get
good” is to play good people.
Our team is “up” for the challenge of “playing up”
a number of levels, and I anticipate that the kids will respond SUPER regardless
of the game circumstances and outcomes because they have such great character
and attitude.
Our attitude is:
We prefer to win,
We prepare to win,
However, we will not fear losing in our AIM FOR PERFECTION.
For as we believe, if you “fear the battle” and are unable to
be willing to learn how to compete at the highest level of your sport………..you’ve
lost before you’ve even begun to compete!
AND COMPETE WE WILL
Wrong or right, wise or unwise………..we with Greenville College
Football would rather get crushed 10 times by great play-off caliber teams
than go undefeated against all the others. That is simply our football program
position when scheduling.
Our Football Program has higher goals than merely “winning”.
Winning is too low a goal for us.
For as OUR MISSION STATEMENT READS IN PART, “The Goal of the Greenville
College Football Program is to Glorify God in all things and at all times.
We intend to use the sport of college football to TRAIN LEADERS, TO BUILD
TEAM, AND TO GROW MEN
This is the primary position of our football program, and this is the position
we will hold.
May the games begin!!!
