GREENVILLE, Ill. – The Lady Panthers (3-12, 0-2 SLIAC) fell to Blackburn College on Thursday, March 31 as they took the diamond against the Lady Beavers under the lights of Lady Panther Field in a SLIAC double-header. Greenville was shut out in the opener 7-0, and fell 8-7 in the nightcap.
In game one, GC registered only four hits in the seven-inning contest and failed to post a run. Blackburn used a pair of timely hits, including a homer in the first, to notch the 7-0 win in the opener.
On the mound Lindsay Schuberth (1-8) was dealt the loss for the Lady Panthers, surrendering six earned on ten hits in seven innings.
In the capper, Greenville jumped out to an early 3-1 lead after two. However a big six run inning for the Lady Beavers would put the game out of reach, despite a three-run surge by GC in the top of the seventh that closed the margin in the 8-7 decision.
Greenville’s Mattie Fairchild led the ladies at the plate, hitting three-for-four with two runs scored and an RBI.
Angela Sheets (2-4) was charged with the loss in the contest, tossing 2.1 innings with seven earned on nine hits.
Greenville Softball will be back to work on Wednesday, April 6 as they take to Lady Panther Field to play host to SLIAC foe Webster University in another double-header under the lights.
