METAMORA, Ill.-- The Lady Panthers softball team could not top SLIAC opponent, Eureka, and lost both games of the double-header. The first game had a final score of 5-1 and the second game 6-3, both favoring the Red Devils.
In the first game, both teams earned one run in the first inning and the game remained tied until the bottom of the fourth. Eureka was able to get 3 hits and 4 runs in the inning to bring the game to what would be its final score of 5-1. Greenville's Bryn McKie led the Panther offense with 2 hits and a run scored in her 3 at bats. Jessica Laubecher was credited with the loss on the mound, after allowing 6 hits and 4 runs from the 18 batters she faced. Hannah Burger also saw time on the mound for GC, facing 13 batters and allowing just 1 hit that scored a run.
In GC's second game of the day, the Panthers looked as if they were going to pull through until the seventh inning. Greenville scored one run per inning in the second, third, and fourth, so the score was 3-0 favoring GC heading into the sixth inning. Eureka was able to earn one run in the sixth bringing the score to 3-1, GC. Unfortunately, the Panthers let the Red Devils score 5 runs in the bottom of the seventh to end the game 6-3 Eureka. Andrea Martin, Danielle Helms, and Whitney Newsom each had an RBI for Greenville. Bryn McKie led GC in hits once again with 3 and she scored one run. Martin and Shannon Elbe also scored runs for the Panthers. Hannah Burger was credited with the loss, allowing 4 hits and 5 of the Eureka runs. Burger pitched one inning and faced 8 batters. Ashley Woodrome also pitched for GC, facing 24 batters and allowing just 4 hits and 1 run.
This brings the Lady Panthers' record to 9-17 (4-6 SLIAC). The team will take the field again on Tuesday, April 23 in a double-header at Rose-Hulman.
