GREENVILLE, Ill.--The GC men's soccer team played Judson (IL) to a gut-wrenching 5-4 loss in overtime.
Jusdon was first to get on the scoreboard when Santiago Munoz shot the ball past Thomas Crown in the 13th minute of the game. GC answered seventeen minutes later after a corner-kick was volleyed into the box by Aaron Mulholland and finished by Dusty Knoll. Michael Berrequin would give Jusdon the last word in the first half, scoring in the 33rd minute.
The second half proved to be just as eventful for both teams. Ten minutes into the half, GC's Jacob Krisher finished a pass from Spencer Pulliam, bringing the score to 2-2. Just two minutes later, Dusty Knoll found the back of the net again to bring the Panthers up 3-2. Judson refused to let the home team hold on to the lead for long. Santiago Munoz got his second goal of the night for Judson in the 60th minute. Jacob Krisher would answer that goal with one of his own in the 74th minute, bringing the Panthers up 4-3. Just when the home team thought they had the game in the bag, Judson's Guilherme Galego scored in the 88th minute and the high-scoring battle headed into overtime.
Judson's Michael Berrequin finished the game two minutes into overtime and the away team nabbed the 5-4 victory.
"I can't complain about the effort, these guys left everything on the field," GC Head Coach Chris Swift explained after the game. "We have to put this loss in perspective and while it hurts, it doesn't effect our ultimate goal. Another positive is we have scored 6 goals in our last 2 games. If we keep the goals coming, I am confident results will turn our way."
The Panther's record is 1-3-2. They will play again on September 18 in Greenville versus Millikin at 7:00pm.
