GREENVILLE, Ill. – 2010 proved to be a solid year for the Panthers, headlined by the 2010 SLIAC Championship. However GC will look to run past a number of obstacles in 2011 in their attempt at a repeat, including with a highly competitive conference and holes in the depth chart.
Aside from the 2010 conference crown, Greenville also notched five individual All SLIAC performers, the overall SLIAC champion, the SLIAC sportsmanship award, and coach of the year honors.
The GC men return the bulk of the runners that combined for much of their success in 2010. Even though the Panthers lose the leadership and experience of a number of seniors and SLIAC champion Alan Hollingsworth, several men are fit to fill the spots at the front of the pack.
Greenville will once again be led by senior Coree Woltering, who has been at or near the top of the performing list for the last three seasons. Joining Woltering near the front will be juniors Ross Baker and Josh Dees. Sophomore Bryant Simpson will also look to compete for a top spot on the squad in 2011.
Adding depth to the Panthers will be a number of capable seniors. Xavier Ortiz, Leo Pathy, Trevor Thompson, Alex Wolfe, and Nathan Young will all battle for spots and push the team throughout the season.
At the helm will be 18th year head coach and 22 time recipient of the coach of the year award Brian Patton.
“We have some great runners and depth this year,” said Patton. “If we can stay injury free and take care of business we should have an exciting year.”
The Panther squad will look to hit the ground running at the Washington University St. Louis Early Bird on Saturday, September 3 at 8:00 am.
