Q: Will I receive a soccer scholarship if I play soccer at Greenville College?

A: Scholarship aid at Greenville College is plentiful in a variety of areas. The amount of scholarship aid that a person might receive will primarily depend upon the following factors:

  • Federal Aid Programs
  • State Aid Programs

These factors and the ensuing aid package can be determined by the Greenville College Financial Aid Office once the student-athlete has (1) been accepted to the college, (2) completed the FAFSA form, and (3) the appropriate information is communicated to our Financial Aid Office.

Q: Is it true that NCAA, Division 3 schools can't give scholarships?

A: No. Colleges that give “partial scholarships” (non-Full Rides, but only partial athletic related aid/scholarships), such as NAIA or Div 2 schools, are DECEIVING YOU IF THEY SAY that we (or any Division 3 school) do not “give scholarships” . The fact is that WE DO give great scholarship aid!!!

What IS TRUE is that our Financial Aid and Scholarship Packages will not be able to list any “athletic related scholarship aid” because Division 3 colleges cannot give financial aid based purely on athletic talent and ability.

HOWEVER, Just remember, YOU WANT TO LOOK FOR THE TOTAL FINANCIAL AID PACKAGE and not simply if a school gives athletic related financial aid.

REASON - if you are given $1,000 or $3,000 or even $5,000 in athletic related aid from a college that gives partial soccer scholarships, you may find that our Greenville College total Financial Aid Package may exceed the total aid package of a “soccer scholarship school” (when you combine all the different forms of financial aid that you may be eligible to receive from Greenville College).

BOTTOM LINE – remember to:

•  Look for the TOTAL FINANCIAL AID PACKAGE before you make decisions, and not just whether a particular athletic related “partial scholarship” is in your package.

•  WAIT TO MAKE DECISIONS about the various colleges you are considering until after you receive the financial aid award packages from ALL  the colleges that you are considering.

•  Do not let schools “pressure you” into making decision about whether to “sign with them.” If they pressure you, they may not have your best interests in mind , only theirs. Sometimes partial-athletic scholarship colleges will attempt to pressure you into signing with them (and accepting their partial scholarship) BEFORE you have the total aid packages from other schools (especially Division 3 schools). That is not in your best interest, and I encourage you consider their attempts to rush you into a decision that may not be in your best interest just because “they are afraid to lose you” to another college and thus have to force you to make early decisions.

IN CONCLUSION:

Only after you and your family have the financial aid award packages from all the colleges that you are considering can you and your family make educated choices based on facts and not on “sales pitches” about how “certain schools give athletic scholarships and others do not.”

However, REMEMBER WHAT MATTERS MOST is the total aid package that a college will offer you, including the various other forms of scholarship / financial aid that an institution may be offering to you if you choose to attend their school.
