Clinical Practices
Overview
Clinical practices occur within three elements comprising the Professional Internship
lasting at least one semester. During each facet of the Internship candidates work
collaboratively with master clinical teachers, experienced college consultants and P-12 students
to demonstrate successful attainment of professional, pedagogical and content area knowledge,
skills, and dispositions. The configuration of courses and practices in invaluable to candidates
as they prepare to become professional educators. The clinical elements for each program are
noted below.
I Early Childhood Education
EDU 400 Early Experience: Work with assigned cooperating teacher
prior to the beginning of school; shadow the teacher, attend workshops,
and become familiar with students, teacher colleagues, and school
administrators. Duration: 1 week
EDU 401 Clinical Practice P-8: Work with clinical teacher to develop
classroom management techniques, create lesson plans and instruct
in whole class settings. Duration: 1 month
EDU 405 Student Teaching 1-3: Duration: Half Semester
EDU 407 Student Teaching Pre-Primary: Duration: Half Semester
II Elementary Education
EDU 400 Early Experience: Work with assigned cooperating teacher prior
to the beginning of school; shadow the teacher, attend workshops, and
become familiar with students, teacher colleagues, and school
administrators. Duration: 1 week
EDU 401 Clinical Practice P-8: Work with clinical teacher to develop
classroom management techniques, create lesson plans and instruct
in whole class settings. Duration: 1 month
EDU 404 Student Teaching: Duration: One Semester

III Secondary Education
EDU 400 Early Experience: Work with assigned
cooperating teacher prior to the beginning of school; shadow the teacher, attend
workshops, and become familiar with students, teacher colleagues, and school
administrators. Duration: 1 week
EDU 412 Clinical Practice Secondary: Under the joint supervision of college
faculty and laboratory teachers, candidates work in a middle/junior high school
or senior high school creating lesson plans, teaching, and assessing student
outcomes. Duration: One Semester
EDU 421 Secondary Student Teaching: Duration: One Semester
IV Music Education (K-12)
EDU 400 Early Experience:
Work with assigned
cooperating teacher prior to the beginning of school; shadow the teacher, attend
workshops, and become familiar with students, teacher colleagues, and school
administrators. Duration: 1 week
EDU 412 Clinical Practice Secondary: Under the joint supervision of college
faculty and laboratory teachers, candidates work in a middle/junior high school
or senior high school creating lesson plans, teaching, and assessing student
outcomes. Duration: One Semester
EDU 425 Student Teaching (K-12): Duration: One Semester
V Physical Education (K-12)
EDU 400 Early Experience: Work with assigned
cooperating teacher prior to the beginning of school; shadow the teacher, attend
workshops, and become familiar with students, teacher colleagues, and school
administrators. Duration: 1 week
EDU 412 Clinical Practice Secondary: Under the joint supervision of college
faculty and laboratory teachers, candidates work in a middle/junior high school or senior high school creating lesson plans, teaching, and assessing student
outcomes. Duration: One Semester
EDU 421 Secondary Student Teaching: Duration: Half Semester
EDU 424 Elementary Student Teaching: Duration: Half Semester
VI Special Education
EDU 400 Early Experience: Work with assigned cooperating teacher prior
to the beginning of school; shadow the teacher, attend workshops, and
become familiar with students, teacher colleagues, and school
administrators. Duration: 1 week
EDU 401 Clinical Practice P-8: Work with clinical teacher to develop
classroom management techniques, create lesson plans and instruct
in whole class settings. Duration: 1 month
EDU 406 Student Teaching – Elementary: Duration: Half Semester
EDU 408 Student Teaching – Secondary: Duration: Half Semester
