College Distinctives

  • The Council for Independent Colleges identifies Greenville College as one of the top ten liberal arts colleges in the nation for excellence in the academic workplace and for an extraordinarily high level of faculty involvement.

  • Recently, the Coalition for Christian Colleges and Universities recognized Greenville College for meeting students' expectation for a caring faculty. Faculty members coach sports, advise clubs, and help in all areas of campus life. Most live less than one mile from campus, so it is common for them to have student groups in their homes. Students and faculty form friendships that often last far beyond college years.

  • Greenville College graduates do well. Teacher-education graduates are placed at more than twice the national average. The strong premedical program places more than 90 percent of its graduates into medical school, again twice the average. Business students often find that summer-long internships lead to jobs after graduation.

  • Associate Professor of Art at Greenville Steve Heilmer, commissioned by Seattle University to complete a statue of Mary for the campus Chapel, completed the project. The contemporary vision of Mary is now on display at St. Ignatius Chapel in Seattle Washington. He welcomes the thoughts of Catholics and Protestants alike gazing upon his creation.

  • In addition to other honors students may apply for admission to the Greenville College Honor's Program, often refereed to as a "valued added" enrichment of the college's already strong curriculum. The components include enrollment in "honors" sections of several general education courses, special honors seminars and courses, writing a senior Departmental Honors Thesis and the opportunities to participate in a variety of cultural , social and service experiences available only to members.

  • Greenville College with the NCCAA make it possible for students to experience off-campus study. The off-campus study programs include African in Nairobi Kenya, American Studies in Washington DC, AuSable Institute of Environmental Studies near Mancelona, Michigan, China, Christian Center for Urban Studies in Chicago, Honours Programme at CMRS in Oxford, England, Institute for Family Studies at Focus on the Family in Colorado, Latin American, Los Angles Film Studies Center, Middle East, and Russian.

  • "Academia Unplugged" In 1997 Greenville College decided to introduce the use of laptop computers into the collegiate experience through an optional laptop program. In 1998 the program was improved by installing the first full campus wireless network in the United States. (View more information about the Greenville College wireless network, the nation's first campus-wide wireless system ...)

  • The 2001-2002 school year is the fourth year of our voluntary laptop program. In these four years students and faculty alike have learned the value of the World Wide Web and e-mail for communication of class assignments and out-of-class discussions.

  • Greenville College continues to extend the curriculum and majors offered at GC which now includes two newly created majors, Digital Media and Media Promotions. Students who are interested in the technical end of the popular CCM major may pursue a Digital Media Major. The product of this interdisciplinary collaboration is a combination of music, management, computer systems, physics, and art shaped into a coherent, progressive whole. The goal of the Media Promotions major is to attract new students interested in publishing, managing, promoting and marketing. The focus is on equipping students with skills to promote various types of media.

  • The Zahniser Institute for Environmental Studies is a non-academic department which supports the Greenville College Division of Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Computer Science by providing students with opportunities for hands-on experience. Students majoring in Environmental Biology can gain valuable field experience through work on ZIES projects.

  • Greenville College continues to build for the future. Two new additions were constructed for 2000-2001 with the completion of Tower Apartments and the Dietzman Center. The Deitzman Center contains the Communication Department, WGRN/Kordon R. Kerns Radio Studios, Family Christian Stores, and Jo's Java. A new dormitory on College Avenue and various renovations to campus will benefit students in 2001 and into the future.

  • Grammy Award Winning artists Jar's of Clay are not the only famous alumni to come from the Contemporary Christian Music Program at Greenville College. The program has graduated artists such as Sarah Jahn: Recording artist, Warner Alliance, Chaz Corzine: President, GET Management, Amy Grant, etc., Jonathan Noel: Keyboard player, Margaret Becker, Karen Anderson: Reunion Records Artist Relations, and many others.

  • The flourishing Contemporary Christian Music programs offers students the opportunity also to meet and take part in seminars with professionals in the music business.
