Greenville College Strategic Planning – 2004-2009

SWOT Analysis

An important part of any strategic plan is an analysis of the internal and external influences on success. This is often done via a SWOT analysis. SWOT stands for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats. Strengths and weaknesses apply to the internal resources of any organization while Opportunities and Threats apply to outside influences.

During September, October, and November 2003 we conducted a series of SWOT analysis sessions with targeted groups both within and outside the Greenville College family. The following are the groups from whom we sought information for our SWOT analysis:

  • Faculty
  • Staff
  • Administrative Staff
  • Students
  • Alumni
  • Board of Trustees
  • President's Cabinet
  • Local Community Leaders (GC to GC constituents)
  • Church Leaders (College / Church Advisory Council members)
  • Educational Partners (Local community colleges with whom we have cooperative agreements)

The content of all the SWOT analysis sessions was combined into a single compendium (Combined SWOT Input) with similar ideas for each section grouped together. We then asked all of the constituent groups to rank these in order of significance. The result of the ranking is contained in the SWOT Data Summary.
