The Project

The Agape Adayakulem Hostel (AAH) has its roots in the Free Methodist Church's (FMC) early ministry to street children in Bombay. Know as "rag pickers" these children would roam the streets of Bombay looking for handouts, collecting trash and rags for possible resale to manufacturers.

In order to provide a ray of hope for these children the FMC determined to take them off the streets, and to feed and teach them. Moving from the harsh conditions of Bombay seemed a starting point. Thus the ministry was relocated to the beautiful shores of eastern India some 1,000 miles from Bombay.

The "back wash" from the recent tsunami destroyed the four buildings of the Hostel and laid waste the surrounding property.

After discussing options with the FMC, it was determined that Greenville College's greatest contribution would be to help in rebuilding the main building of this Hostel.

Staff members of the Hostel will meet our Team in Bombay and escort us to the Hostel, as well as provide the necessary tools and resources we will need in rebuilding.
