The Purpose

Greenville College offers the Church Partnership Scholarship as an opportunity for a local church to encourage and support students from its congregation who seek continued spiritual growth and career preparation by attending Greenville College. In the same way a church supports mission work, the local church can provide financial support to its people as they learn to exemplify Christ to others throughout their lives and careers. As a partner with families and local churches, Greenville College seeks to help young people become effective throughout our country and world.

The Program

When a local church elects to support one of its members attending Greenville College through the Church partnership Scholarship Program , the college will match up to $1,000 of the church's scholarship. In cases where financial aid resources meet the student's financial need, the college will match the first $500 given by the church. Students must reapply for the Church Partnership Scholarship each year.

The Qualifications

Any person enrolled as a traditional, full-time undergraduate student at Greenville College can participate in the Church Partnership Scholarship Program. The student need not qualify for federal or state assistance to receive the Greenville College Church Partnership Scholarship

The Process

A student who plans to attend Greenville College should print and complete the online Church Partnership Scholarship Application/Commitment Form, and submit the entire form to his or her local church for consideration. The church must then determine its desire and ability to assist the student through the Church Partnership Scholarship Program. When the church approves the request for scholarship support, the appropriate church representative should complete the rest of the form and send it to the Greenville College Financial Aid Office prior to March 1, 2005. The church must make the check or money order payable to Greenville College with the students name noted on the memo line. The church may submit the scholarship funds with this application form or send the payment to the Financial Aid Office by August 15th. The college will apply the matching award against the students spring semester charges. Greenville College will provide the matching scholarship funding until demand exceeds the available scholarship.

Exceptions and Restrictions

Greenville College may adjust a student's award if receipt of scholarship jeopardizes the student's eligibility for government or other forums of assistance.

The Church Partnership Scholarship Program provides an incentive for local churches to financially support those from their congregation who desire further career and spiritual preparation at Greenville College. Due to federal and state tax regulations, a parent or immediate relative of a Church Partnership Scholarship recipient may not donate to the church's matching scholarship fund. The local church should encourage family members to honor this restriction.
