WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY, AUGUST 27-28, 2003

Pre-Orientation for ALANA (African, Latino, Asian, Native American) and International Students Begins.

FRIDAY, AUGUST 29, 2003

All Freshman and Transfer Student Orientation Begins

6:00 am to 11:30 am Pre-Season Athletic Practice
Times to be determined by specific coaches

8:00 am to 1:15 pm Music Placement Exams (LaDue Music Center)
Sign up for exams in music office (1st floor LaDue) before completing residence hall check-in

Piano Placement exams, 1st floor LaDue
Voice Placement exams, 2nd floor LaDue
Choral Auditions – LaDue 104
Music Theory exam for all music majors and minors, 1st LaDue-Band Room – 8:00-10:00 am

If you plan to major or minor in music, you must participate in the music theory and piano placement exams. Test results will be used to identify appropriate music theory and class level for you. If you plan to study applied voice or applied piano you must take the respective placement exam. If you would like to join the Greenville College Chorale or Choir you must complete a choral audition in Room 104 LaDue.

8:00 am to 1:30 pm Welcome Tent
Located in the center of campus next to Hogue Hall, the Welcome Tent is where you will find refreshments, directions, answers to your questions, and your welcome packet. You will also receive complimentary meal tickets for parents planning on eating with us for lunch and dinner on Friday.

8:00 am to 1:00 pm Residence Hall Check-In
Residence halls open for all new students, including transfers. Please report to the hall where you have been assigned. Student Development will be present to help you check in. A “Baggage Brigade” will be ready and waiting to help you with your luggage!
(See insert enclosed in New Student packet for directions for drop off at residence halls.)

9:00 am to 9:00 pm Family Christian Stores
Browse through the shirts, sweatshirts, books, tapes, CDs, and other Greenville College items.

9:30 am to 12:30 pm ACT Testing (Library Studio A)
Required of all students who have not taken the ACT or SAT.

11:30 am to 1:30 pm Transfer Student Luncheon (Locations listed below) Mandatory
We value our transfer students greatly! We want to welcome you to campus with a luncheon in which you can meet and talk with faculty in your chosen major. After lunch, you can work to finalize your Fall, Interterm, and Spring schedules and address concerns you have about getting settled into the GC community.

Non-Music majors: All students who have other (non-Music) majors or are undecided.
Location: Dietzman Center, second floor. Dietzman Center is where Jo’s Java and Family Christian Bookstore are located. Take the stairs or elevator to the second floor.

Music majors: All students with Music majors (including Contemporary Christian Music, traditional Music, and Music Education.)
Location: Marston Hall, Room 101.
Marston Hall is located just north of the Free Methodist Church, east of Hogue Hall. Room 101 is just off the lobby as you enter the building on the ground floor.
Parents of transfer students: Lunch is available in the Armington Center Dining Commons. Complimentary tickets are in welcome packet.

11:30 am to 1:30 pm Lunch (Armington Center)
No cost to new students and parents. Parents must present their complimentary meal ticket from welcome packets. Other guests will be charged $4.50.

1:30 pm to 3:00 pm First Session with COR 101 Class (See postings for assigned rooms)
This is the beginning of your COR 101 experience. You will meet your COR 101 faculty instructor/advisor and his/her teaching assistant. Transfer students not assigned to a COR group, please meet in posted location.

1:30 pm to 3:00 pm Parents’ Orientation/Question and Answer Time (Free Methodist Church)
Dr. V. James Mannoia, Greenville College President, will open with a discussion of his vision for transforming education in the liberating arts and sciences. He will then give parents an opportunity to ask questions of key administrators and faculty.

3:00 pm to 3:30 pm Parents’ Meeting with COR 101 Instructors (See postings for assigned rooms)

3:30 pm to 4:30 pm New Student Convocation (LaDue Auditorium)
This session will serve as the first formal gathering of the new freshmen and transfers. Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Karen Longman, and Associate Vice President and Dean of Student Development, Dr. Norman Hall, will preside.

4:30 pm to 5:00 pm Crossing the Threshold/Planting the Ivy
(Students gather in front of Hogue Hall. Parents gather on Scott Field. Faculty line the rear steps of Hogue Hall in regalia.)
Greenville College President Dr. V. James Mannoia privately addresses new students from the steps of Hogue Hall. In this silent ceremony of beginnings, freshman glimpse the fulfillment of hopes and opportunities available to them at Greenville College, celebrating the life of the mind.

5:00 pm to 6:00 pm Family “Barbecue” Picnic (Scott Field)
Giant family meal on Scott Field. Free to students and parents; must present meal tickets. Other guests - $5.50.

6:30 pm to 8:00 pm Covenant/Communion Service (Crum Recreation Center)
During the important transition to college, we realize the interdependence of student, family, and college in effectively shaping the student’s life. Join together in this time of covenant and worship as our President leads us in a communion service committing ourselves to one another before God. All students and parents are encouraged to attend.

PLEASE NOTE: Parents are free to leave at this time as subsequent orientation events are designed for the students.

8:00 pm to 9:30 pm Pre-Season Football Practice

8:30 pm to 9:30 pm Coffee House (Library Steps)
Student Association & Campus Activities Board, led by Student Body President, Ms. Vanilda Reyes, will provide music, entertainment, and gourmet coffee.

9:30 pm to 11:30 pm Residence Life Meeting (LaDue Auditorium)
Mandatory for all resident students.
Part I - Dr. Hall and the Student Development Staff will share things you need to know to have a rewarding experience living on campus.
Part II – Hall meeting with your floor mates, Resident Chaplain (RC) and Coordinator for Residence Education (CRE).

11:30 pm to 12:30 am Freshman Mugging (On the Mall in front of Snyder Hall)
Come and join in on the fun as Campus Activities Board and the Alumni Office offer free ice cream and soda in your own Greenville College
Mug.


SATURDAY, AUGUST 30, 2003

6:00 am to 8:00 am Pre-Season Athletic Practice
Times to be determined by specific coaches.

7:30 am to 8:30 am Continental Breakfast (Armington Center)

8:00 am to 9:00 am Student Financial Services Session (LaDue Auditorium)
Mandatory meeting for all student loan borrowers
This session will meet the federal requirements of a “Student Loan Entrance Interview” For all borrowers of federal student loans. Loan proceeds will not be disbursed to your account until you have participated in this session and completed necessary documents. Come prepared with a pencil or pen.

9:00 am to 4:00 pm Assessment and Language Testing (Snyder Hall Rooms 103, 104, 120)
Mandatory testing for all freshmen. Students will participate in testing with their COR 101 group opposite scheduled enrollment time.
ALL incoming B.A. and B.S. students (freshmen and transfers who have not taken one of the foreign language exams administered on Greenville campus this summer) MUST attend this testing session in order to take the foreign language placement exam or (at this designated time) sign a waiver stating that:
a) foreign language instruction was received in a language other than Spanish or French or
b) no foreign language instruction has ever been received

9:00 am to 2:30 pm COR 101 Groups Meet for Freshmen Enrollment (meet in locations assigned to core groups for initial sessions)
Meet with your COR 101 faculty advisor to complete the enrollment process. Faculty group leaders will be with you to help answer any questions you may have. Please make sure you have all of your Health Insurance information readily available.

12:00 pm to 1:30 pm Lunch (Armington Center)
Students must present ID card. Cost to parents and guests is $4.50.

2:30 pm to 4:00 pm Transfer Student Enrollment (Marston 101-102)

4:00 pm to 5:30 pm Meeting for PASS students (Academic Enrichment Center in the Library)

4:00 pm to 7:00 pm Pre-Season Athletic Practice
Times to be determined by specific coaches

4:00 pm to 7:00 pm Choral Auditions (LaDue 104)
If you would like to join the Greenville College Chorale or Choir you must complete a choral audition in Room 104 LaDue.

5:00 pm to 8:30 pm Dinner Festival (Library Lawn)
Mandatory for all new students.
This is a great opportunity for you to get acquainted with other new students. There will be a fabulous dinner followed by a time of Praise and Worship concluding with an exciting speaker. (Further details will be provided at NSO.) Students must present their ID card. Cost to guests is $5.50 per person.

9:30 pm Pre-Service Learning Project Event (Hoiles Gardens)
Bring a blanket and flashlight and meet with your Resident Chaplain (RC) at Scott Field then travel to the “Gullies” for a movie – “The Man Who Planted Trees.” Cold drinks and snacks will be provided, courtesy of Greenville College Student Association.


SUNDAY, AUGUST 31, 2003

7:30 am to 9:00 am Breakfast (Armington Center)

9:00 am Adventure-based Service Learning Project for all new students – freshmen and transfers.
Gather with your COR 101 class at rear of Hogue Hall and prepare to board buses.
Be sure to wear old clothes that can get water, paint and mud on them. Depart for Overnight Service Learning Project. This is a day and a half of service, worship, and community building. This is an annual tradition that takes place in Bourbon, Missouri. President Mannoia will be on location along with several faculty and administrators.

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 1, 2003

8:00 am to 6:00 pm Enrollment
Enrollment for returning students and for any new students who did not complete enrollment process on Saturday.

8:00 am to 9:00 am Breakfast (Camp Mihaska Pavilion)
Gather with your COR 101 group for fellowship and breakfast.

9:00 am to 10:00 am Whole Group Praise and Worship
Led by Chaplain, Lori Gaffner

10:30 am Depart for Campus

1:00 pm to 2:00 pm Late Lunch (Armington Center)

2:00 pm to 3:00 pm COR 101 Group
Meet with your faculty leader at your pre-assigned location.

3:00 pm to 5:30 pm Free Time
This time is designated for you to rest, visit with your new friends, or perhaps check out the Ultimate Frisbee game on Scott Field.

3:00 pm to 5:30 pm Choral Auditions (LaDue 104)
If you would like to join the Greenville College Chorale or Choir you must complete a choral audition in Room 104 LaDue.

3:30 pm to 5:30 pm Pre-Season Athletic Practice
Times to be determined by specific coaches.

6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Departmental Dinners (Meet at Scott Field, then walk to Faculty Homes)
Meet with your COR instructor on Scott Field who will give directions to faculty homes according to your academic interests.

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 2, 2003

6:00 am to 8:00 am Pre-Season Athletic Practice
Times to be determined by specific coaches

8:00 am to 4:00 pm Enrollment - to be completed no later than 4 pm today.
Enrollment for returning students and for any new students who have not completed enrollment process.

9:00 am to 9:00 pm Family Christian Stores
Browse through the bookstore for shirts, sweatshirts, books, tapes, CDs, and other Greenville College items. Text books available for sale, class schedule required.

3:00 pm to 6:00 pm Choral Auditions (LaDue 104)
If you would like to join the Greenville College Chorale or Choir you must complete a choral audition in LaDue Room 104.

6:00 pm to 9:30 pm All Student Back to School Bash (Scott Field/Recreation Center)
Enjoy dinner served BBQ style out on the lawn while listening to music by our own student radio station, WGRN (bring your ID). Interact with old and new friends as you join in the fun and activities planned by Student Association and Campus Activities Board (CAB).
Rain Location: Recreation Center/H.J. Long Gymnasium.

Organizations, clubs, academic departments, and ministry opportunities will be available for you to pursue. Ask questions, sign up, and find out what life is all about at Greenville College.
