Higher Learning Commission (HLC) - Comprehensive Evaluation Visit
April 24-26, 2006
Introduction
Greenville College is regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Assocation of Colleges and Schools (HLC). Continuing membership with HLC calls for institutional self-study and peer evaluation. Ten years ago, during the 1995-1996 academic year, the college was re-accreditated for another 10-year term. On April 24-26, 2006, Greenville College will again undergo comprehensive evaluation by the HLC. On these days, a team of fellow educators from other colleges, working for the HLC will come to our campus to determine whether or not Greenville College should continue to receive accreditation.
Greenville College , throughout the 2004-2005 and 2005-2006 academic years, studied its operations using the criteria defined by HLC. Findings of this recommendation are found in the Self-Study Report (see the link to the report in the left column titled “Read the Self-Study”). Other links on this page provide further background on the Self-Study plan, timeline and people involved a project important to the future of the college.
The Self-Study Plan explains the colleges' plan for conducting the self-study by exploring five topics:
- the goals for the self-study process;
- how the “new” criteria and core components will be addressed in the process and report;
- how the college will respond to and report on the concerns expressed by previous visit teams during the 1996 Comprehensive Evaluation visit and the 2001 Focus visit;
- establishing a self-study calendar;
- and generating a preliminary outline of the Self-Study Report.
Goals of the Self-Study Process
Greenville College has established four goals that will guide the self-study process:
- Secure re-accreditation.
- Integrate existing strategic and master planning with Illinois State Board Education teacher preparation re-accreditation and the HLC Self-Study process.
- Raise awareness of the central role of ongoing planning and assessment in the life and health of the institution.
- Use both the primary HLC “criteria” and the four “cross-cutting themes” for accreditation to clarify the strengths of the college and our constituencies.
