Athletic Highlights
The baseball team advanced to their third consecutive National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) national tournament where they placed fifth in the nation. They received an automatic bid to the tourney after winning the NCCAA North Central regional championship.
The women's basketball team participated in the NCCAA regionals for the fifth consecutive season, concluding the season with a record of 15-11. Junior Amy Brinkerhoff was an honorable mention choice on the NCCAA all-American team and the NCAA Division III all-Central region team.
The men's cross country team took the SLIAC championship for the sixth consecutive time. Seven runners were members of the all-conference team, and Nathan Liechty earned an NCCAA academic all-American award.
The women's cross country team won the SLIAC championship for the ninth straight time. They posted six all-conference runners and four NCCAA academic all-Americans. Their team was also a NCAA academic all-American team with a cumulative GPA over 3.5.
The football team completed their first season under the direction of head coach Scotty Kessler . Junior running back Dontrell Harriel received recognition as an NCCAA first team all-American and offensive back of the year.
The men's soccer team wrapped up their season with a fourth place SLIAC finish. Sophomore Seth Huber earned fourth team honors on the NCAA Division III all-Central team and was a first team selection on the NCCAA North Central all-region team.
The men's track and field team extended their NCCAA national championship streak to four indoor national titles and three outdoor titles in 2003. They also posted their best finish at the NCAA Division III outdoor national championships as the team placed seventh in the country. Junior Danny Donaldson was an NCAA indoor all-American, and the team had eight men recognized as NCAA outdoor all-Americans.
The women's track and field team finished fourth at the NCCAA outdoor national championships for their best placing in school history. Three women qualified for the NCAA Division III outdoor national championships. Senior Andrea Shultz wrapped up her career as the most decorated GC athlete at the national level as she was an NCAA all-American.
The volleyball team ascended into the upper echelon of the SLIAC with an overall record of 14-11, placing third in the conference. First-year head coach Tom Ackerman was named SLIAC coach of the year after leading the Lady Panthers to their best conference mark in school history and their best win-loss record in ten years.
