Campaign Highlights
COMPREHENSIVE CAMPAIGN
Setting the Goal:
- The Board of Trustees approved a goal of $18 million for the comprehensive campaign, “Transforming Lives, Shaping the Future.” With plans the launch the public phase of the campaign in spring 2004, the campaign will run through the end of 2005. As of June 30, 2003, the college has raised $10,580,252.
Dedication of the V.W. Maves Art Center:
During Homecoming, close to 75 people attended the dedication of the V.W. Maves Art Center. Alumnus Vivien Wallace Maves '28, generously donated $300,000 to complete both interior and exterior renovations. Maves' niece Betty Blue and June ? performed the ribbon cutting with President Mannoia and A rendering of the exterior, done by art professor Steve Heilmer, is shown below.
- Within the center is the new Frank Taylor Rowland and Blanche Elynda Rowland Art Gallery. Dr. Willard Rowland, who grew up in Greenville and attended G.C. during his freshman year, gave $100,000 to name the center in memory of his father and his wife. Rowland's father, Frank Taylor Rowland, served on the Board of Education for the Greenville Public Schools from 1918 – 1934, several of those years as president; Dr. Rowland's wife, Blanche Elynda Rowland, nurtured an interest in oil painting for more than 60 years of her life. She studied at the Instituto Allende, an international university of the visual arts in Guanajuato, Mexico. The gallery will hold both student and faculty exhibitions.
