Greenville College Annual
Report 2004-05
Campus Profile
Integrative Learning
Many students at GC share
an interest in integration … specifically when it
comes to a major. Students
come with unique academic and career
interests that aren’t always addressed by
existing majors offered at Greenville. ITEP,
the Individually Tailored Educational Plan,
offers them the opportunity to design a
college program that is personalized to their
interests and ambitions.
With the counsel of an advisor, the
student selects a course curriculum which
provides an opportunity to reach the
educational goals of Greenville College
in a way that is individually appropriate
and satisfying. An ITEP course curriculum
requires emphases in at least two academic
areas, such as Art and Religion, Music and
Psychology, or History and Business. In many
cases the integrated ITEP program takes
on a name of its own, such as “Creative
Ministries” and “Music Therapy.”
Jacob Eckeberger, a junior with areas
of emphasis in music, ministry, literature, and
Jewish-Christian studies, explains his draw
to ITEP. “I have many interests and passions
that I know will play themselves out in my
life. It is an incredible opportunity to grow
in them,” said Eckeberger. “ITEP allows you
to be stretched over a variety of different
fields.”
The integrative nature of the program
has led to new interdepartmental majors.
One such partnership between the business
and music departments recently led to the
development of a Music Business major. Ani
Johnson, a professor in the Music Business
program, shared, “We had so many students
pursuing an ITEP program in Music and
Business that the two departments decided
to develop the Music Business major. It was
exciting to recognize a specific program
need in our students and be able to meet
that need with a new major.”
The Music Business major is a crossdisciplinary
curriculum between music
and business that focuses on preparing
students to work as executives, managers,
and administrators in all areas of the music
industry. The program provides students
concentrated study and professional
expertise in artist and venue management,
production, publishing, distribution,
retailing, booking and touring.
Sophomore Seth England studied as
an ITEP major before becoming a Music
Business major. “My professors have worked
with me on an individual basis. They
help take the areas you are interested in
becoming an expert in and help you move
towards your goals,” said England. GC has
provided England unique opportunities in
concert development and planning.
It is the goal of the Music Business
major to form Christian executives and
servant leaders with strong ethical
backgrounds so that they cultivate a new
standard of integrity in the music industry.
