Greenville College Partners with Local Free Methodist Churches in Habitat for Humanity Build

Habitat Build to Begin this Fall

GREENVILLE, ILL. –  The four sister Free Methodist organizations, Greenville College, Greenville Free Methodist Church, Hillsboro Free Methodist Church, and St. Paul’s Free Methodist Church, will partner with Habitat for Humanity of Bond county to raise money for and build a home this fall with plans to complete the project by spring. The organizations plan to identify a family, acquire property, and raise roughly $20,000 by late September. The organizations are seeking suggestions regarding property and eligible families. To contribute suggestions, time, resources or to volunteer please contact Joe Culumber or Jim Mannoia at 618-6647007 or hfh@greenville.edu

President of Greenville College, Dr. V. James Mannoia explains the purpose of this cooperative community service project. “Our vision in this joint project is not only to put ‘feet’ and ‘hands’ to our calling to help God’s people in need but in the process to become stronger ourselves,” said Dr. Mannoia. “Each of our institutions can individually become healthier communities within ourselves as we turn our attention to helping those outside. If a healthy human body requires exercise, then surely the body of Christ is healthier when it serves.”

The college community has a history of involvement with Habitat for Humanity both in building homes and raising awareness of homelessness through Shak-a-thon, an annual event held on Scott Field where students spend two nights living out of card board boxes.

To receive an application for home ownership with Habitat for Humanity, Bond County Chapter, please come to a Habitat Orientation/Application Meeting at one of the following times: July 23, Bradford Room in Greenville, 2 p.m., July 24, Sorento Municipal Center on Taylor Street, 7 p.m., July 25, Pocahontas Village Hall at 101 W. Kavanaugh, 7 p.m. or July 27, Fireman’s Park on Maple street in Mulberry Grove, 7 p.m.
