Greenville College Freshman Travels to Iceland for International Jamboree

GREENVILLE, ILL. - Danielle Waterman, a freshman at Greenville College, recently traveled to Iceland for the Boy and Girl Scouts International Jamboree.  Waterman left her hometown of Stronghurst, Illinois in mid-July to join an elite group of sixteen Scouts from the United States.

The International Jamboree involved over 3,000 Scouts from more than 20 different countries who came together for two weeks of activities including horse back riding, water rafting, snowmobiling, camping, and hiking.

While Waterman enjoyed all of the events taking place at the Jamboree, she especially enjoyed the horseback ride through a dried lava field and a visit to an active geothermal energy plant.  After spending the first week camping by a lake at the foot of a mountain, the participants then ventured to the nations capital of Reykjavik where they stayed at a Salvation Army guest house for the remainder of the time.  Such an opportunity undoubtedly made a lasting impression.  “It was an amazing experience.  The people I met, the places I visited, these are things I will never forget” commented Waterman.

Three thousand miles later, Waterman is back in the United States and ready for her freshman year of college.  Currently an Early Childhood Education major, Waterman chose Greenville not only for its top-notch education program, but also for the passionate educators themselves.  She is very comfortable in the rural setting and, after experiences such as traveling to a foreign country with thousands of strangers, she is having no trouble making new friends.

Greenville College is a four-year accredited Christian liberal arts school with more than 1300 traditional undergraduate, graduate, and adult degree completion students.  Founded in 1892 and affiliated with the Free Methodist Church, the college is located in Greenville, Illinois, 45 miles east of St. Louis.
