Relay for Life Attracts Enthusiastic Corporate and Team Support

Event Participation Approaches 600 to Walk, Run and Wheelchair for a Cure for Cancer

GREENVILLE - As the area community prepares to gather for the 1999 inaugural Bond County Relay for Life, scheduled for September 24-25, corporate sponsorship and team support growth has exceeded the expectations of event coordinators. "With 46 teams and 35 corporate sponsors currently registered, the Bond County Relay is turning out to be one of the largest fund raising efforts ever undertaken in Bond County," states Randy Alderman, event co-chairman.

Team Response
Significantly exceeding their initial goal of 20 teams, team recruitment co-coordinators, Darryl Bolen, pastor of the First Christian Church in Greenville, and Sarah Thompson, a junior Music Education major at Greenville College, now expect 45-50 teams from area businesses, families, organizations, and other groups.

Teams organized by Greenville College, the Simple Room, Lions Club, Greenville Jaycees, Utlaut Hospital, and the First Christian Church in Greenville will take to the track with the Sew 'n Sews, Rolling Stones, K.F.C. (Kids for Cancer), Jailbirds, Angels in Sneakers, Misfits, Marching Madhatters, Dynamic Demos, Healthy Hoofers, Mad Cash, Foot Loose, Trail Blazers, The Rescuers, Y2K (Yearn 2 Kure), Phyl's Angel & 1 Little Devil, and Tic Tacs (Time is Crucial Team-up Against Cancer). Together these groups from the Bond County community will circle the Greenville College track for 18 hours in pursuit of a cure for cancer.
