Men's Indoor Track & Field Team Repeats NCCAA National Indoor Invitational Championship; Women Finish Fifth

GREENVILLE, IL - The Men's Indoor Track & Field team defended their NCCAA National Invitational Championship Saturday, February 24 by taking first place in the national meet held in Adrian, Mich. The Women's squad placed fifth.

The men won the National Championship with 182 points and topped their closest competitor by one hundred points. Greenville posted five champions, seven second place finishes, and five third place marks.

Their winners included the men's 4 x 200 Meter Relay team (Toye Watts, Paul Lueken, Damaan Hutcherson, and Shane Cress - 1:36.09), Jeff Boele (5000 Meter Run - 15:25.59), Carlos Leonard (Long Jump - 21' 1"), Jon Levels (High Jump - 6' 1"), Brent Baucom (Weight Throw - 44' 2"), and Stephen Troup (Shot Put - 44' 8").

The women's squad tallied 56 points with one champion, two second place performances, and three third place accomplishments.

Andrea Shultz won the Weight Throw with a toss of 49' 3". This mark qualified her on a provisional basis for the NCAA Division III National Indoor Championships. It also broke a school record.

Two other Lady Panthers broke school records. Kelli Schoenleber now tops the 55 Meter Hurdle list with a time of 9.64 seconds, and Meredith Deters set a record in the 800 Meter Run (2:20.09).

Both teams return to action Friday, March 2 in the Depauw University Qualifier before sending members to the NCAA Division III National Indoor Championships March 9-10 at the University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh.
