Communication Department Professors
Associate
Professor Cary Holman began working at Greenville College
in 1979 during a high school teacher exchange program. Before his
work at Greenville he taught at Carlinville Junior-Senior High School
and at Blackburn College. He also announced at WIBI in Carlinville
for three years. Prof. Holman received his B.S. degree from Greenville
College and his M.S. degree from Southern Illinois University at
Edwardsville.
He is currently finishing work on his doctoral studies in the School
of Journalism at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. In
his dissertation Prof. Holman is examining the relationship between
adolescent mass media use and their sexual attitudes and behaviors.
Besides his teaching duties, Prof. Holman enjoys his role as General
Manager of WGRN. Prof. Holman and his wife Tonya have two children,
Audra and Allison, and two granddaughters. In his spare time Prof.
Holman enjoys reading, writing, challenging shelf puzzles, and collecting
old books.
Professor
Cecelia Keener serves as chair of the Humanities Division
and artistic and managing director of the Factory Theatre. She earned
her undergraduate and masters degrees from Murray State University
and a Ph.D. from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.
Dr. Keener has recently worked with the St. Louis Repertory Theatre
and Opera Theatre of St. Louis. She brings more than 25 years of
teaching experience to the GC classroom and leads classes in theatre
performance, literature, fine arts, and communication. She has traveled
extensively in Western and Eastern Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia,
and Central and South America, and has served as a Peace Corps Volunteer
in Honduras. She enjoys decorating, reading, music, theatre, foreign
films, canoeing, and walking.
Professor
Veronica Ross is the head of the Communication Department
and director of Business and Promotions for WGRN Radio. She is a
GOAL designer of, and instructor for, two courses: Managing Interpersonal
Communication and Organizational Communication. In addition, she
has served as a primary instructor for GOAL Cohort 33. With Dr.
Rob Anderson, of St. Louis University, she has co-authored a textbook
entitled Questions of Communication: A Practical Introduction to
Theory (3rd ed.)Bedford-St. Martins Press.
She and her husband, Stephen, have two sons: Corey 98 and
Chris 93, a granddaugher, Alexa, and a grandson, Andrew. In
her spare time, Prof. Ross is earning a second masters degree
in Leadership and Ministry with LAMP.
She is a member of the National Communication Association; Central
States Communication Association; Religious Communication Association;
Illinois Speech and Theater Association; Phi Kappa Phi, Phi Theta
Kappa, and Kappa Delta Pi National Honors Societies; Delta Kappa
Gamma International; and the campus advisor for Lambda Pi Etathe
International Communication Honors Society. She serves the Greenville
community as a member of the Greenville Womens Club, and the
First Baptist Clerk as church clerk. Her hobbies include interior
decorating, collecting antiques, and British TV (BBCAmerica), but
teaching and reading are her fondest loves.
