Fall 2002 Memories
Alumni
Reunion Weekend
The 2002 weekend kicked off
on Thursday with a picnic,
ice cream social and concert on Scott Field. The evening ended with
a chance for all to view the heavens at the new Winslow Observatory,
located at the GC Ayers Center.
Friday provided opportunities for the attendees to
pursue their individual interests at a variety of workshops and
activities. One of these activities was the ever-popular Panther
Golf Scramble, which benefits GC Athletics.
Friday night featured the alumni banquet and the young alumni family
picnic at Patriot’s Park.
Dr. Robert E. “Ish” Smith, president emeritus, was the
guest speaker at the banquet. During the evening he was also honored
with the Distinguished Alumnus Award. Other awards given during
the banquet included the Faculty Award, presented to Dr. Craig Boyd,
and the Loyalty Award, presented to Tom and Betty Morgan.
At noon on Saturday, the reunion classes reconvened
for individual class reunion lunches.
Dinner Saturday featured a Mexican-style fiesta in
Armington Center. The activities then moved to Patriot’s Park
where BlueGrass, a Christian bluegrass band, performed a concert.
The weekend culminated with a fireworks display presented by Stephens
Family Healthcare of Greenville.
