Three Alumni Have New Books Published
Arnold
Cook ’42 has written two books in retirement after
serving for 28 years as head of the department of business administration
and economics at Houghton College. His latest book, “From
a Star to Park Avenue: Cream Puffs and Lemons” (Self-published,
2001) uniquely uses autos in his life as the framework for this
true “auto”biography. Although not yet owning a car
at this time, even his Greenville experience incorporates one as
a significant factor. This true record attests to God’s providential
protection and clear leading over eight decades. The first, “Of
a Boy and His Valley” (Windswept Press, 1991), chronicles
his life as a pastor’s kid in a Free Methodist parsonage in
rural New York during the Great Depression. Many phases of life
during this period are faithfully related with humor and sensitivity.

Paul
Stroble ’79 recently published his eighth book, “Mystery:
Experiencing the Mystery of God” (Abingdon Press, 2002). The
study book explores several aspects of spiritual formation, exploration,
and growth. The book is written for adults in their 20s and 30s
who want to seek God amid their experiences of college, marriage,
career choices, and so on. Stroble’s other works include “High
on the Okaw’s Western Bank: Vandalia, Illinois, 1819-1839”
(University of Illinois Press, 1992), “Journey’s Home:
Thoughts and Places” (Self-published, 1995), “Adams
Street Antiques” (Self-published, 1998), and “Paul and
the Galatians” (Abingdon Press, 2000). 2585 Stonecreek Dr.,
Akron, OH 44320. Pestroble@cs.com.
Jesse
(Daniels ’00) Graham is the author of “Finding
Mann: A Novel” (iUniverse, 2002). The book blends romance,
adventure, and science fiction with messages of hope and the faithfulness
of Jesus Christ. When Riley Mourning escapes from a cruel genetic
testing lab that kidnapped both she and her younger brother, she
discovers that local law enforcement are suspiciously uninterested
and that she is suffering strange physical changes. With the
Lord’s ever-present message of hope and the help of the FBI’s
Special Agent Russell, Riley uncovers the truth behind the facility’s
deadly secrets. As they search for answers, finding her lost
brother Mann becomes not just a journey for truth, but also slowly
draws the hearts of two believers towards healing and each other.
Graham has also authored a children’s book, “A Short
in the Port” (Self-published, 2001), and a devotional book,
“Love Letters to a Christian College” (Self-published,
2001). 2824 James Rd., Apt. 8, Hannibal, MO 63401. jngraham@hotmail.com.
