Improvement Focus Turns to Renovation
After completing four years of non-stop building projects, Greenville
decided to shift attention back
to many of the older buildings. Last year’s state grant for
capital improvements funded most of the projects.
Some of the most significant
projects include a major renovation of the Information Technology
wing of lower Hogue Hall and the new mailroom along with improvements
to LaDue Auditorium and classrooms and Marston Hall classrooms.
The academic buildings were not the only ones to receive makeovers
- the residence halls and athletic facilities also received new
paint, plumbing, and/or roofs. Several other projects updated the
grounds with the addition of speed bumps, new fences, parking lot
maintenance.
In addition, in May of 2002, the board of trustees completed a
year-long process of investigating and evaluating energy expenditures
on campus by approving a contract with Custom Energy of Overland
Park, KS, to improve energy efficiency of college buildings. The
$835,000 contract has a six-year compensation in energy savings
and will include the installation of energy efficient lighting,
toilets, showerheads and an energy maintenance system. The contract
is scheduled for completion in October.
