Campaign Update
Resting in faith that our success was assured, the Greenville College board of trustees announced an ambitious campaign goal of eighteen million dollars. The fundraising efforts have focused on the following major components: Annual Fund, Programs, Facilities, and Endowment.
With $13.5 million already in hand, Greenville College entered the public stage of the comprehensive campaign in the spring of 2004. As phase one of the comprehensive campaign draws to a close in December 2005, we are moving ever nearer our goal of $18 million. “We are pleased with the progress of the campaign,” said Campaign Committee
Chairman Lloyd Ganton. “Our current total is $17.3 million and we hope to reach $18 million by December.”
Music Center
Construction workers have labored through the summer to transform the former Free Methodist Church into the Greenville College Music Center . Additional work will be needed to complete the third floor of the former education wing of the church, as funds become available.
Much work has already been done over the past eight months to create new classrooms, practice rooms, recording studios, and faculty offices. The project has required extensive soundproofing throughout the building, including triple layers of drywall and even sound baffles inside the air ducts.
Greenville College also seeks to honor one of the great patriarchs of the Greenville College choir and music program, Dr. James E. Wilson, by establishing the James E. Wilson Music Development Fund. This special fundraising effort will support the renovation of the new Music Center , as well as future development of the music program. Future plans include the conversion of the church sanctuary into a recital hall, which will be named the James E. Wilson Recital Hall.
Soccer Fields
Greenville College has continued the expansion of the John M. Strahl Athletic Complex by recently breaking ground on a $140,000 addition south of Bowman Drive on the west side of Elm Street in Greenville. The college is constructing two soccer fields and a 100-space parking lot. Slated for use in August 2006, the facility will be named Andrews Fields.
The 80 by 120 yard irrigated soccer fields will be seeded in September 2005. Greenville College is partnering with Slatton Excavating and Blankenship Landscaping of Greenville in the project. The south portion of the property will contain the parking lot with two entrances on Bowman Drive . The new soccer fields will be located directly south of the parking lot.
Almira House
The Almira House restoration is well underway and set to be complete in time for a dedication ceremony during Homecoming Weekend, October 21-23. The Greenville Women's Club will also honor the project this fall by presenting the college with a Restoration Award.
