A Call To Action

By Travis Klopfenstein
Director of Advancement

I need your help and prayers. Over the next seven months I am responsible for directing the college's efforts to finance the restoration of Kinney Hall.

Obviously I can't do it alone, so I am enlisting the help of our students and now you, our alumni and friends, to assist me in meeting this unanticipated challenge and urgent need.

The college has produced a 12-minute video that tells our story of the fire, Joel Pierce, and what God has done in the aftermath. We want as many people to see this video as possible, and this is where I need your help.

I am asking for volunteers to get the video into their home churches, Bible studies, and small group meetings. Please let me know if you are interested and I will provide you with a free video and further details. When speaking in churches, we will ask the pastor for 15 minutes during Sunday morning services to show the video and share briefly about the restoration campaign.

Cost estimates to repair Kinney Hall begin at $600,000. Insurance will cover most of the cost, but not all. Improvements required by building code upgrades, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and technology initiatives not covered by insurance amount to $250,000.

In order to meet this unexpected need we must rely on the generosity of Greenville friends and family. The college cannot afford to take a step back and borrow the money. We do not want to increase our debt load. Therefore we must ask for help.

The time line is short. Work must be completed in time for the fall 1998 semester, so we want to have all of the money raised by September. For those who would like to contribute to the restoration campaign, a reply envelope is bound into this issue of The Record for your convenience.

To request a free video to show in your church or small group, or to get more information, call me at (618) 664-2800, ext. 4534. Thank you in advance for your willingness to help.
