Thank You!

to all those who donated clothing for the victims of the Kinney Hall fire on Dec. 9, as well as personal items and other necessities. We received an estimated 200 coats, 500 pairs of jeans, 100 pairs of shoes, plus scores of other items. More than 50 volunteers came forward to help sort and organize clothing, answer phones, and a variety of other tasks in the days immediately after the fire. We also greatly appreciate the many cash donations, which are still coming in. To date, Greenville College has received approximately $24,000 for the Fire Victims Fund, $37,000 for the Kinney Rebuilding Fund, and $2,000 for the Joel Pierce Memorial Scholarship Fund, named for the student who died in the fire. Hundreds of well-wishes have poured in from all over the country in the form of cards, letters, phone calls, and E-mails. All of these gifts of love have eased our pain and helped us move forward along the journey to healing. Thank you for your prayers and concern.

Update on Cash Donations

Following the Kinney Hall fire on December 9, three funds were set up by the college to accept cash donations. Below is an update of where those funds stood as of March 23.

Fire Victims Fund $23,890
Kinney Restoration Fund $47,919
Joel Pierce Memorial
	Scholarship Fund $1,908

Letters and checks were sent out in March to the former residents of Kinney. Through a combination of their personal insurance, college insurance, money from the Victims Fund, and other gifts, they were reimbursed for about 85 percent of the value of their personal possessions lost in the fire. The 85 percent figure is the accepted standard in the insurance industry. Therefore, the college is no longer seeking donations to the Victims Fund.

Fund-raising efforts related to the fire are now being focused on the campaign to restore Kinney Hall by September 1998, in time for the fall semester. Contributions may be sent to the college in the reply envelope bound into the physical Record issue.
