GC Receives Eisenhower Grant
Greenville College is one of the recipients of the FY2002 Eisenhower
Grants for Professional Development of Educators.
The Illinois Board of Higher Education has posted the names of the
successful grant applicants on their web site, which can be accessed
at http:www.ibhe.org. The successful
grantees can be viewed by clicking on the December meeting agenda.
Greenville College is granted $62,000, which represents the ninth
largest sum of money granted with Eisenhower funds at this time.
This money will be spent to offer a professional development program
for approximately 50 math and science teachers in the surrounding
communities.
The Project Director for the grant is Karlene
E. Johnson, Math/Science Education Coordinator for the College.
The program offered to teachers will consist of five mini-courses:
Students as Scientists (4-6th grade teachers), Turning Math Students
into Problem Solvers (7-12th grade math teachers), Targeting Students
Misconceptions in Physical Science (7-12th grade physical science
teachers), Inquiring Minds in Chemistry (H.S. Chemistry), Developing
Scien-tifically Literate Citizens (H.S. Biology).
