Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet
Greenville College will host its 10th Athletic Hall of Fame Induction
Ceremony and Banquet on April 20. Inductees include Walter Scott
21, Lester Finger 43, Jo Ann Noble 56, the 1971
mens tennis team, Tony Hubbard 77 and David Powell 91.

Scott will enter the Hall of Fame in the Pioneer Category. He
served as one of the earliest directors of physical education
at GC. He spearheaded the movement to convert the field behind
Hogue Hall into an athletic field that is still enjoyed, appropriately
named Scott Field. |

| Finger, to be inducted in the Coaching Category, is a U.S.
Navy veteran, an coached a the high school and college levels
for more than 25 years. He achieved notable success in Arizona
where his 1959 Phoenix Christian High School football team won
a state championship and he was named Arizona AP and Interscholastic
Association Coach of the Year. |

| Noble, who will go into the Hall of Fame in the Athletic Category,
played intramural basketball, softball and volleyball at GC
prior to the years of intercollegiate competition. She was named
an All-Star in each sport. She served as a professor of music
at GC for 30 years before retiring to missions work in the Philippines. |

| The 1971 mens tennis team will be inducted in the Team
Category. Its members accomplished a feat unmatched to that
date with the first undefeated season in GC history. Coached
by John Strahl, the men were 12-0 and PCC conference champions. |

| Hubbard, also appearing in the Athletic Category, played baseball
at GC where he was an NAIA All-American catcher. He finished
his playing career at GC as the career leader in runs scored,
hits, doubles, triples, home runs, runs batted in, total bases
and put outs. |

| Powell will be inducted in the Athletic Category as well.
He quarterbacked the 1987-90 GC football teams to a record of
31-4-1. He was the most valuable offensive player in 1987 and
was the 1990 NAIA scoring champion with 18 touchdowns, good
for 108 points and an average of 13.5 points per game. |
