Summer 2000
Highlights On and Off the Field
In the past 6 seasons in cross-country . . .
- The men finished this past school year with a 3.81 team GPA,
ranking them No. 1 in the nation among the nearly 400 NCAA Division
III programs, finishing ahead of other outstanding academic institutions
such as Washington University and MIT.
- The combined men’s and women’s programs had a 3.53 GPA, ranking
Greenville 9th in the nation in NCAA Division III. (MIT was No.
1 overall.)
- The men had 6 Academic All-Ameri- cans in 1999-2000: Jeff Boele,
Jared Hart, Joe Niemuth, Jimmy Bean, Justin Snider, and Brian
Weiss.
- The women had 4 Academic All- Americans in 1999-2000: Amy Ferrell,
Becky Knight, Jenny Svoboda, and Tiffany Weiner.
- Mark Theiss and Jeff Boele have represented GC in the NCAA National
Meet for the past 3 years. Theiss has twice earned All-America
honors, finishing 27th and 10th.
- The Greenville College men’s and women’s teams have won 20 invitational
meets in the past 6 years.
- The women have never lost a conference championship since joining
the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) in 1995.
That’s 5 consecutive conference championships.
- The men have failed to win the conference championship only
once since joining the SLIAC (1995), finishing 1st the past four
seasons.
In the past 6 seasons in track and field . . .
- The men have won 4 NCCAA national championships, 3 this past
spring. They were: Danny Donaldson, long jump and 100-meter
dash; Toye Watts, Shane Cress, Justin Bennett, and Donaldson,
4 x 100-meter relay. Greenville College’s first national championship
(in any sport) was earned by Mark Theiss in the steeplechase
3 years ago.
- GC won the National Christian College Athletic Association
(NCCAA) National Indoor Meet in the spring of 2000.
- GC finished 3rd at the NCCAA National Outdoor Championships
in 2000, our highest finish ever.
- The men and women have broken 51 different records a total
of 115 times.
- The number of athletes participating has grown from 18 in
1995 to 75 in 2000. Total expected for this coming school year:
96.
- The women had a cumulative team GPA of 3.39 at the end of
the spring 2000 semester, earning them Academic All-America
team honors.
