“I’ve spent four of the best years of my life playing soccer at Greenville College, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.”

More Than One Goal

Greenville Men's Soccer

Have you ever known a group of people so dedicated to each other that you thought that together they could change the world? Though the men’s soccer team had a winning season, the coaching staff and members of the team felt that their greatest accomplishment was unity. This strong sense of brotherhood developed throughout the season, and helped them to finish the season with strength.

Making one another feel welcome was obviously something with which the team had no problem. Newcomer to the team, Coach Brian McMahon stated, “Although this was my first year coaching here, I really felt welcome from the guys on the team, and I felt they played their best for me. One of my favorite things this year was taking guys from Argentina, Nigeria, Washington, and all over the Midwest, putting them together on a team, and watching the chemistry develop from there.”

It was this welcoming spirit that helped the team make the most of the season. Holding firm to this sense of brotherhood, the men remained strong even when the chance to be in the playoffs slipped through their fingers.

The time spent together off the field also played an important role in making this season memorable. By pestering, hugging, praying, laughing, and sharing testimonies, the team encouraged one another. Head Coach Brian Reinhard said, “Overall, I thought there was a good team spirit when we had our prayer times, pool parties, road trips, and other activities. I also felt a good spirit at our awards night.”

Senior Josh Furci added, “The soccer team is a great group of guys, and I’m proud of the effort that was given by everyone. We were definitely a team that made a ton of improvements by the end of the year. I’ve spent four of the best years of my life playing soccer at Greenville College, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.” This is a feeling echoed by many members of the team and coaching staff.

There is a particular friendship about the men’s soccer team. It is a bond that attracted many new players, who became a part of this community. By dealing with the ups and downs, common to all friendships, players not only develop their athletic skill, but also strengten one another.
