Commencement Speaker

We are pleased to welcome Dr. Reggies Wenyika to campus as the guest speaker for the Adult & Graduate commencement ceremony at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 12, 2018 and the Traditional commencement ceremony at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 12, 2018.

Reggies Wenyika is the 12th President of Southwestern Christian University, where he had previously served as Provost and Vice-President for Academic Affairs. He serves as Vice-Chair of the Oklahoma Independent Colleges and Universities (OICU) and the African Institute of Biomedical Sciences and Technology (AiBST), and as a board of directors’ member for the America Association of Presidents of Independent Colleges and Universities (AAIPCU). He has been involved as a Commissioner and trainer for the Council of Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU)’s Chief Academic Officers’ and was a charter member of the American Council on Education (ACE) Chief Academic Officers. He is involved in other higher education initiatives in Colombia, Bolivia, Nigeria, Haiti, and Zimbabwe.

His multi-disciplinary scholarly interests range from education, behavioral sciences, theology, and health sciences. He co-edited, Engaging Our World: Christian Worldview from the Ivory Tower to Global Impact; co-authored, Strictly Business: Soft Skills to Help You Succeed in The Hard World of Business (2nd Ed.). Reggies has presented papers at various scholarly societies and co-published in such journals as The European Journal of Contraception and Reproductive Health Care, Child Abuse Review, and The Journal of Public Health. He was also a contributor to the 2017 textbook, Child Maltreatment in Residential Care: History, Research, and Current Practice.

A graduate of the University of Zimbabwe’s College of Health and Sciences, Reggies also received a Bachelor of Religious Arts in Biblical Studies; a Master of Ministry in Leadership; a Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration; and a Doctor of Education in Higher Education Administration from Oral Roberts University where he was honored with the Most Outstanding Achievement Award. His wife for 21 years, Bongi, received her Ph.D. from the University of Oklahoma. They live in Edmond, Oklahoma with their two kids, Thembi and Kudzai.

Baccalaureate Keynote Speaker

Baccalaureate is a farewell address in the form of a sermon delivered to the graduating class. Each year, graduating seniors nominate a member of the college faculty to deliver the address at the Baccalaureate ceremony. This year's honored speaker will be announced in April.

The Baccalaureate ceremony will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 11, 2018 in Crum Recreation Center.
