Walkabout

Each fall dozens of students hike the trails of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. Led by a Guide the teams of eight spend ten days in the wilderness, learning leadership lessons from the challenges of the trail, forging a Christ-centered community, seeking God's guidance during a time of solitude in the wilderness and sharing their stories around the evening campfire.  This program is required for all Resident Chaplains and GCSA Executive Cabinet officers.  It is also open to other interested Greenville College Students. For questions or more information about Walkabout, check our their Facebook page here.

IBHE Cooperative Education Grant Program

Every year dozens of Greenville College students serve Illinois non-profits in a wide range of internships.  Through a grant provided by the Illinois Board of Higher Education Greenville College pays students to intern with Illinois based non-profit organizations.  Students also receive a $150 per credit hour tuition discount for the academic credit they earn.  On average students serve 4,000 hours each year in this co-op program.

LiveText Portfolios

This fall three sections of COR 101 will build electronic portfolios utilizing LiveText that highlight who they are, why they are in college and what their future plans are.  Students in the three sections will submit a variety of artifacts including documents, pictures and video clips to their portfolios answer these three questions.  At the end of the semester they will present their portfolios to their classmates.

This winter one section of COR 401 will build electronic portfolios utilizing LiveText for review by potential employers.  They will collect artifacts from their college careers that highlight their skills, talents and abilities.

These pilot programs are intended to explore the feasibility and value of expanding the use of LiveText portfolios in all COR 101 sections in the fall of 2011.
