After
a season in which the Greenville College men's soccer team won their
most games since 1998, senior Seth Huber, a central midfielder,
received the highest honor in NCCAA Division I men's soccer – the Kyle
Rote, Jr. National Player of the Year Award. Huber, of Coffeen , Ill. ,
concluded the 2004 season with 12 goals and five assists for 29 points.
The Panthers ended their season with an overall record of 13-7-3 .
The Kyle Rote, Jr. Award annually goes to the outstanding NCCAA
Christian junior or senior men's soccer player in Division I who
possesses a vital Christian testimony on and off the field and exhibits
outstanding leadership qualities.
Over
Huber's four-year career as a Panther, he was the team's leading point
producer, helping lead the team from a record of 4-13-3 in his freshman
season to the 2003 and 2004 NCCAA North Central regional tournaments.
The 2004 Panther team was ranked in the top 10 in the NCCAA on two
occasions.
Three times he was recognized as a first team SLIAC
all-conference selection and NCCAA North Central all-region selection.
In 2002 and 2004, Huber was honored on the NSCAA NCAA Division III
Central all-region team.
“Not
only is Seth our best player, but the most humble leader I have
coached,” said Head Coach Brian McMahon. “He is a very well respected
leader, captain, and mentor to the younger players.”
Huber will
graduate in May with a bachelor of science degree in physical
education. He has been a four-time SLIAC academic all-conference
selection and was named to the 2004 CoSIDA Academic All-America
District V first team.
In addition to serving as a three-year captain, Huber conducts a team
Bible study and leads a praise band. Since the season concluded, he has
accepted invitations to try-out for several professional soccer clubs
and organizations in the United States .
Huber
has certainly left a distinguished mark on the Greenville College men's
soccer program as they have continued their tradition as formidable
opponents in SLIAC and NCCAA competition.
