Greenville College Hosts 11th Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet
Nearly
450 Greenville College alumni, friends, student-athletes, and coaches
packed the Armington Center on Saturday evening, April 17, as the
institution hosted its 11th Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet.
The
class of 2004 inductees included Jack Trager '55, Meritorious
Achievement category; Rich Weinhandl '74 and Rachelle (Minott)
Klopfenstein '92, Athletic category; Marilyn Starr, Coaching category;
and the 1969 baseball team, Team category. The evening also recognized
Kyle Shultz '02 as the recipient of the Order of the Orange and Black.
The
program included a special video tribute in memory of John M. Strahl,
former athletic director and coach at Greenville College from 1950 to
1977, who passed away on August 31, 2003 , at the age of 79.
During
the banquet, it was announced that $275,000 had been raised in gifts
and pledges toward the John M. Strahl Athletic Development Fund which
is used in financing improvements to the newly renamed John M. Strahl
Athletic Complex one mile south of campus. Earlier in the afternoon,
Greenville College formally dedicated the complex in a ceremony held at
the facility.
