What is CSO?

The Community Service Organization (CSO) is responsible for the safety of the Greenville College community. CSO is an integral component of the College's efforts to provide leadership and service opportunities to students. The student staff provides a number of services to the GC community including after-hours response, regular checks of fire safety equipment, safety escorts, campus parking policy enforcement, residential furniture moving, and the campus rentals program.

CSO provides these services through a variety of shifts. Students patrol campus from 9pm to 6am seven days a week from Convocation to Commencement and from 11pm to 7am seven days a week during the summer months. Parking Attendants also patrol at various times throughout the day and night. In addition to providing these services, the student staff of CSO meets weekly with the Assistant to the Dean of Students for accountability to excellence in their tasks and education on topics relating to both the specific shift duties and leadership development.

CSO does not have law enforcement authority. The Greenville Police Department provides law enforcement services on the Greenville College campus. CSO cooperates with the Greenville Police Department in full compliance and support of all local, state and federal laws.

Students should report thefts as soon as possible to their Resident Chaplain (RC) or Coordinator of Residence Education (CRE). Most students' possessions are covered under their parent's homeowners insurance. Please speak with your parents concerning their type of policy, amounts of coverage, and size of deductible. Students are encouraged to insure their own property through one of the many insurance companies that provide policies for college students.
