Having an automobile on campus is a privilege available to all Greenville College students.
Greenville College provides parking for students, faculty, and staff in a variety of campus lots. All students who bring a car to campus must purchase a parking permit sticker and display it on the driver side rear bumper or rear window. Failure to properly display parking tags may result in ticketing. Since Greenville College is located within a residential community with limited but adequate parking resources, it is expected that all college student owned vehicles be parked on college property. Failure to park your vehicle on college owned property may result in tickets.
Permits are valid for one year (September 1st to August 31st) and may be purchased for twenty-five dollars ($25) from CSO during regular business hours. To receive a permit, one must complete a registration form and submit proof of auto insurance. The State of Illinois requires all motorists to have liability insurance, including a minimum coverage of five-thousand dollars ($5,000) property damage and twenty-five thousand dollars ($25,000) public liability.
Temporary parking permits are available for up to seven days and may be obtained in the CSO office in Lower Armington .
A parking permit is valid only for the person and vehicle to which it is registered. Removing, tampering, or altering parking permits may result in disciplinary action including suspension of parking privileges. You may not give or sell your parking permit to anyone. Any attempt to provide false or misleading information to gain a parking permit other than the one you are eligible for may result in disciplinary action including suspension or reduction of parking privileges.
Abandoned vehicles may be subject to towing at the owner's expense unless special arrangements have been made with the Assistant to the Dean of Students or the Dean of Students. Vehicles are considered abandoned if they are not registered with the college and lack vehicle registration information.
Trailers, boats and/or mobile campers may not park on campus without prior permission from the Assistant to the Dean of Students or the Dean of Students.
Vehicles displaying a black Tower Apartment permit may park in all on-campus lots. Vehicles displaying a green Junior/Senior permit may park in all on-campus lots except the Tower Apartment lot. Vehicles displaying a purple Sophomore permit may only park in the Tennis Court , Burkhardt Center , Tenney East, Tenney North and Kinney parking lots. Commuters displaying a blue Commuter permit may park in all on-campus lots, but are the only students who may park on the gravel lots west of the Music Center. Parking in the Ganton Circle lot is for campus visitors and Bookstore/Jo's Java customers only. Students who park in the Ganton Circle , or Claussen Plaza at any time may be automatically ticketed. Overnight parking is prohibited at the Student Union and the Ganton Circle parking lots. All posted reserved parking spaces for maintenance, college vehicles; foodservice and CREs are enforced 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Parking in posted fire lanes for any reason for any length of time is prohibited and may result in immediate towing. It is illegal to park on the grass anywhere on campus at any time. Parking in handicapped parking spaces without a permit is a violation of state law and may result in ticketing and/or towing. Please respect all posted reservations and regulations.
Failure to abide by these rules and regulations may result in ticketing, towing, and/or other disciplinary action, including loss of parking privileges. In order to serve the campus community better, students will need to adhere to these policies. Failure to do may result in ticketing and/or towing (depending on severity). Three or more offenses may result in a loss of parking privileges, impounding of the violators vehicle by campus security, or towing AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE. Greenville College parking tickets are as follows:
Handicapped Parking without a permit $50
Parking in a fire lane $50
All other parking violations $20
Parking tickets may be appealed to the Assistant to the Dean of Students or the Dean of Students within ten days of the offense. All tickets, other than handicapped parking or fire-lane parking, can be paid within ten days at a reduced of ten dollars ($10). After ten days appeals will no longer be heard and the ticket will be charged to your Greenville College account. Please be aware that unpaid parking tickets on your bill may prohibit class registration, transcript generation and housing sign-ups. Tickets issued by the Greenville Police Department must be paid at the Greenville Municipal Building . BASIC RULE IN PARKING: (adapted from St. Louis University)
Park your vehicle in a valid parking space between two parallel parking stall lines in the areas designated for your permit.
PROPERTY RIGHTS
Students must assume responsibility for their own personal property. The college does not insure the personal property of students against theft or damage. The College expects each person to respect every other person's property rights and urges each member of the College Community to report thefts promptly and to supply information which will assist in the apprehension of any person who takes someone else's property or that of the College. WE URGE STUDENTS WHO DO NOT HAVE COVERAGE THROUGH THEIR PARENT'S HOMEOWNERS INSURANCE TO BUY PERSONAL PROPERTY INSURANCE.
