Professional Work and Development
Dr. Salguero-Schmidt has made presentations at professional conferences
for educators. She has focused on her special interests and experience
in teaching children's literature and introduction to literature
courses. Her most recent presentations include: "But What Does it
Mean? Using Multimedia in a Poetry Unit," delivered at the Delta Kappa
Gamma, Lambda State Convention in St. Louis, Missouri in 2005 and also
at the Faculty Forum at Greenville College in 2004. She offered
another presentation, "Cultural Diversity in Children's Literature," at
the Kappa Delta Pi Convocation held in Orlando, Florida in 2001 and at
the 2001Delta Kappa Gamma, Lambda State Convention, held in Oak Brook,
IL.
Dr. Salguero-Schmidt is very much involved in Delta Kappa Gamma, an
International Honor Society for Women Educators, and Kappa Delta Pi,
the International Honor Society for Education. Dr. Salguero-Schmidt
was the president of the Alpha Pi Illinois chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma
for four years, from 1998-2002. She has also published the chapter's
yearbook since 1996. She is the co-sponsor for Greenville College's
Kappa Delta Pi chapter, Omega Zeta.
In addition to her work with professional organizations, Dr.
Salguero-Schmidt has served as a reader for HECA grant proposals for
the Illinois Board of Higher Education (since 2001). She was also
trained by the Educational Testing Service to be an evaluator/grader
for the TOEFL written exam. Her favorite accomplishment has been her
role as "June" in the Greenville College productions of the musical
comedy, "Smoke on the Mountain," presented in 1994, 1998 and in 2005.
