What is Interlibrary Loan? Print E-mail
WHAT? Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a means of borrowing library materials from other libraries when the Greenville College Library or other I-Share member libraries do not own the books or periodicals you need. Local, state, and international databases are used to access materials not available in our library.
WHO? Current Greenville College students, faculty, and staff may use our ILL services.
WHERE? ILL request forms are available at the Reference Desk. If you prefer to submit an electronic request, you can also complete the ILL Periodical Article Request Form or the ILL Book Request Form available at this web site. If you have questions, a librarian can assist you.
HOW MUCH? Books and photocopies requested through ILL are supplied free of charge unless the lending library charges for their service. In this case, we will pass the charge on to you.
HOW MANY? We will process up to ten requests for you per week, so if you need more than ten items, spread your requests out over several weeks.
ESSENTIAL INFORMATION? Complete and accurate bibliographic information (e.g. author, title, date) is needed to speed the processing of your request. If your request is unusual, please provide us with your source of information. Do not forget to put your name, address, phone number, date needed by, and the maximum cost you will pay on your request form.
CAUTION! Incomplete or illegible ILL forms or requests for materials available in our library will be canceled and returned to you. Be sure to check the ILLINET Online Library Catalog and the Periodical Holdings List before you request an item through Interlibrary Loan.
WHEN? Most requests are filled within two weeks. More difficult requests may take as long as four weeks. Occasionally requests cannot be filled. Talk to a librarian if you need an item more quickly than two weeks or if you would like to visit another library to use an item.
RETURNING ILL MATERIALS Photocopies of articles are yours to keep (unless marked with a due date). Return any other materials to the Circulation Desk by the due date written on the white slip inserted in the book. You will be charged ten cents per day for overdue items.
ASK! The Reference Librarian can answer questions on the status of your request (618-664-6609
