The goal of our developmental approach to student discipline is to resolve conflicts, restore relationships, and promote a redemptive / life changing community ethic within the social arenas that are Greenville College. Self-discipline, peer accountability and informal confrontations/communications with duly appointed representatives of the institution, i.e. faculty, staff, coaches, RD’s, RA’s are the preferred sequence of action.
When informal means of discipline are exhausted and/or one’s behavior repeatedly violates college policy and behavioral expectations noted in the Greenville College Lifestyle Statement, the student is subject to Institutional Disciplinary procedures. Thus the level of response moves from informal into a formal process.
Personal Growth Initiative
One of our most unique characteristics at Greenville College is our "personal growth initiative." The PGI was established to promote personal responsibility for one’s behavior, the college will not seek formal institutional disciplinary action against a student who has violated community standards if he/she voluntarily seeks assistance. Voluntary means, that the student makes his/her desire for help known to a Student Development Officer or Resident Director prior to the beginning of formal proceedings.
To initiate the Personal Growth Initiative, the student must approach a Student Development staff person expressing a desire to repent and change. A collaborative plan shall be established which specifies one’s intent to change including action steps and accountability procedures. Formal disciplinary procedures shall be suspended as long as the student adheres to the plan.
