The Greenville College Grounds Staff personally takes care of all on
campus snow removal. For your safety and convenience, we have the
following priorities in place. Please be patient with our crews as they
are working diligently to clear your way.
The following snow removal plan shall be implemented whenever weather
conditions exist that create hazardous conditions on walkways or paths
of college properties.
The Director of Facilities
and Support Services along with the on-call grounds supervisor will
monitor weather forecasts for anticipated accumulation of ice or snow
and be prepared to respond at the appropriate time. Their judgment will
be used to determine the most effective time to dispatch the snow
removal crew. Snow removal crews will consist of both grounds
supervisors and 4-6 student workers. Grounds supervisors will arrange
starting times and locations for student workers. In the event that
additional labor is needed, maintenance personnel will be assigned to
assist.
Initial efforts will be concentrated on the
central corridor of main campus and progress outwardly to include the
remainder of campus, being led by the upper campus grounds supervisor.
Simultaneously, due to the nature of the facility and its hours of
operation, attention will be given to the Sports Training Annex parking
lot and walks, under direction of the athletic field supervisor. Upon
completion of the STA, that crew will join the main campus crew to
supplement their efforts.
We are also responsible
for clearing the parking lot at the FM Church. This will be done as
time permits along with all other parking lots. However, this lot will
have priority if necessary to allow for a scheduled service or event.
Snow removal for all other Church property is contracted out. Church
personnel are responsible to contact the contractor directly for this
service.
Walks will be bladed with mechanical
equipment where feasible. Steps, landings and smaller areas will be
cleared with hand shovels or brooms. Ice control material will be
spread on steps and landings where needed.
During freezing conditions all areas will be checked periodically throughout
the day for accumulations of ice. Ice control material will be applied
as necessary.
Snow removal efforts will be implemented in the following order:
- Sports Training Annex parking lot and walks.
- Claussen Plaza , Page Circle , and Spruce Street mall. This will include the North entrance for Hogue Hall.
- Snyder Hall parking lot and alley
- Ganton Circle Drive and parking lot including Armington Center and Burritt/Dallas Hall entrances.
- Marston/LaDue walks.
- Library, Gym-Rec Center areas.
- Snyder Hall walks.
- Student Union, Joy, Janssen, and Bock Museum areas, including Joy House.
- Music Annex, Holtwick Hall and College Ave. Residence areas.
- Kaufmann and Archer Hall areas.
- Maves Art Center.
- Bass-Mollett House, Hoiles House, and Tower Apartments
- Entire sidewalk along Elm Street from Marti House south to College Ave.
- Kinney and Tenney Hall areas.
- Outer residence houses.
Depending on the amount of snowfall, students may be asked to move their vehicles
to cleared lots. This will enable Maintenance to clear student's lots.
When this arises, your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
Each building is supplied with Ice Melt. These will be located in buckets at
all main entryways. Please do not hesitate to use this in case of icy
entries or walks. This should be spread in the same manner as you would
spread birdseed. Please do not allow it to clump, as it is not
effective in this form.
We appreciate everyone's
cooperation and patience in respect to Snow Removal. We realize the
importance of our students and faculty/staff, in getting to their
destinations.
