FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 03/20/06
Greenville College Student to Run for Miss Iowa
Senior Emily Nicholas, Winner of Miss Cedar River,
Gives Vocal Performance
GREENVILLE,
ILL. Greenville
College senior, Emily
Nicholas, winner of the Miss Cedar River pageant, will
compete for the title of Miss Iowa
in June. Meanwhile, Nicholas studies Contemporary Christian Music at the
college. She will perform her senior recital Friday March 24 at 7:30 p.m. in the Greenville
College Music Center.
The public is invited to attend.
Nicholas began her
pageant run after encouragement from her older sister Carolyn Nicholas who won
both Miss Cedar River and Miss Iowa
in 2004. The Nicholas sisters perform together at youth events, nursing homes,
and other venues through out Iowa.
Carolyn will be joining her sister on stage again this Friday night. The two
have written and recorded songs together. Their song, “Where Beauty Lives,”
speaks to the heart of Emily’s platform as Miss Cedar River.
“God makes us who
we are,” said Nicholas, who has made inner beauty and the StrengthsFinder
program developed by the Gallup Institute her pageant platform. She plans to
speak to school children and youth groups on the importance of recognizing our
individual strengths and inner beauty.
Greenville
College adopted Gallup’s
StrengthsFinder, which is used by major corporations worldwide to assess and
provide feedback to employees and managers, to help students, faculty, and
staff identify and develop their individual talents and strengths. While Gallup Polls are an everyday concept to
most people, the Gallup Organization is also one of the world's largest
management consulting firms, and StrengthsFinder has proven very beneficial in
helping people identify, develop, and use their talents and strengths to become
more effective students and employees.
